RE: How long is legal

If you have an accident your overlength must be proven to be contributary to the cause of the accident. Otherwise, you are not automatically at fault. For example, you are 45 feet long, on a road restricted to 40 feet, nothing towed, and you are rear ended. the fact that you are 45 feet long is not causitive to the accident and you are not responsible.

RE: diesel oil change and filters

Last time I did ALL the filters it was over $300. If you just do the oil and fuel filters; looking at $125-175 at a Cummins shop.

RE: My Next Question??

Knowing the true MSRP is the key. I have seen some MSRP sheets that were extremely inflated. It's easy to get 30% or even 40% off is the MSRP sheet is fabricated and inflated. A couple of weeks ago Leisure Time RV was advertising $100,000.00 discount on their Newmars. Could there be that much mark up?

RE: Friend with a Major problem!! HELP!!!!

Since the friction between the tires and the road is the only factor in the equation, the tires will slide way before the bolts will shear. After all, you have 5 or 6 bolts holding the wheel on and I have NEVER seen them shear, even if loose. My bet is that some inferrior bolts were used and probably over tightened to boot.

RE: My Next Question??

Try Tim DeMartini. Their website is www.demartinirv.com. They have a store in Indiana and will deliver anywhere from there or Grass Valley. Good, honest, church-going people and won't give you a line of BS.
I "have no dog in this fight" but certainly will second the above. If you are ready to buy or just shopping, try them. Either in person or on the internet. I was told (and I do believe it) that they sell over 50 % of their coaches over the internet to repeat customers who they never see until delivery day.

RE: My Next Question??

Some of the stories people tell on here about their great deals need to be taken with a grain of salt.
I would like to see the actual paperwork on more than a couple of deals I've read on here.
I got 30 % off on my Scepter last year (WITH a trade) and I bet that I could get 35 % off this year. I do know that a dealer must believe you are ready to buy before you get the best price. Having bought two coaches from DeMartini in 5 years, I believe that they give the best prices anywhere. BUT, you aren't going to get a great price if they think you are just "kickin tires". Have your check book out and make them a reasonable offer--you WILL drive away in a coach.

RE: Electric Question...

If yu are dropping one leg on the hot side that isn't so bad, but if you drop the nutral than you have FRIED CIRCUIT BOARDS AND OTHER BAD STUFF. IMHO, get it fixed right.

RE: Fueling RV

If its not one thing, its another. I have a residential fridge in my Pace Arrow, and I never turn off my generator when I am on the road. That included a four-day trip to the left coast, and with the AC running. If you are going to get on the road and think of everything going wrong, take a plane.

well, about a million of us do it through out the year and other than a bit of salt residue which you hose off, hasn't hurt anybody yet. Try it, the sunsets are beyond belief

RE: Macerator

The macerator dump is sloooow compared to the traditional way.
If the pump fails (it's a motor and it will some day) in the middle of a
black dump, you are going to be sorry ... :)
This is why i always use the traditional dumping and keep the macerator hose disconnected. I will occasionally use it at home.----------------------------------------------------------
If the pump fails in the middle of a black dump, simply close the black dump valve, open the gray and wash the system with the bypass. It will still be a pain, but not gross.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
On my system,(hardwired & permanent) if something fails, you have to handle about a gallon of black stuff if that is what you were dumping. Opening the grey water does nothing as it will not pass the impeller.

RE: Macerator

one of the best investments you can make to get rid of stinky slinky. another option if you stay in full service sites every once in a while is a Sewer Solution.
bumpy
On the other hand, my coach came equipped with a Sani-Con System and I HARDLY ever use it. It takes almost 20 minutes to dump 40 gal of black and 50 gal of grey watr. It is terrably slow and I don't believe it lets the black solids "rush" out which is paramont to keeping the solids out of the black tank. The ONLY time I use mine is if the sewer pipe is uphill or longer than my 3 " hose. It is especially bad at a dump site on a Sunday afternoon with 20 people waiting in line behind you. Just another unnecessary gadget!

RE: "STEER SAFE" Stabilizer by Camping World

I can't comment on that particular system, but I put a SAFE-T-STEER system (sold by Camping World) on a 36' 02 Endeavor. After having it aligned I still didn't like the way it tracked so I thought I would try something else. It was better, but not by much. I Thought their claims were over blown. However, it was not my imagination because my new scepter drives STRAIGHT down the road and cornors much better.
Just FYI

RE: Tire rotation

RV tires should be rotated ONLY if there is a discernible wear pattern on tires (usually front tires) AND you are more than a year or so from replacement.
I.E. most will not rotate, or rotate only once.
Back inside after painting outside of house all day-- would rather overhaul and engine (but don't have one that needs is and the house trim needed a coat of paint).
Sorry I was not clear. First paragraph stands. Second "restated":
If you do not drive enough miles/with alignment out enough to cause a discernible wear pattern, you will not rotate at all. If more miles/out of alignment, may rotate once.
On our last set of Michelin XZE's I rotated once at 55,000 miles, as there was a wear pattern setting up in front. Took both front tires to the left rear and both left rears to the front. Replaced them at 6 years and 85,000 miles.
Note: And this is from Michelin, not me-- DIRECTION OF ROTATION IS NOT AN ISSUE unless you have unidirectional tires (maybe 5% of RV tires). Usually the left rear tires are in the best shape as they have not been curbed as much or hit as many potholes as right rears and you do want to move your BEST tires to the front.
BEFORE I did that, I would measure the circumfrence of the tires and if they are not the same as the other rear pair, I wouldn't move them to the rear axle. (Hard on the differential gears). AND, in my (limited) experience with tire wear pattrns, once they start a pattern, it won't help much to move them to the rear. Your cost to mount/dismount/balance may not pay for the increase in mileage.

RE: Tire rotation

Also, if you have aluminum wheels you have to dismount/remount the tires to rotate them and the cost isn't worth what little mileage you will gain if any.

RE: 36' or 40'

If you think 40' is too big, it is. If you think 36' is too small, it is. You're the only one who can decide what's right for you.
I think the above quote says it all and in very few words. we started out w/ a 36 and 2 years later bought a new 40--4 slide. BUT, we spend about 6 months over a year in ours and like the extra space. I just depends on what kind of things you are doing and how much space it takes to keep yorr wife happy. And YES you will be limited to the larger state parks with a 40'
Buy your last coach first, it will save you big $$$

RE: Cummins Catastrophe Update

If you have an exhust brake & the fan is a side mount you can have it programmed to come on w/ the ex. brake which significantly increases retardation. If it is a true "Jake" brake or you have a rear radiator, this does not apply.

RE: Economy forces Class A rethink!

All of the below advice and DRIVE both, look at the quality, and than make up your mind. Remember, you are buying a depreciating asset so you really do need to buy what you are going to want to keep for a long time. Personally, I would prefer an older diesel in your price range to a newer gasser. Especially since you state you are going to be full timing.
Wayne
P.S. DeMartini is a stand up outfit, I have bought two coaches from them and never regretted doing business with them.
